Swashbuckler!: Appearance

Why bother to analyze Vyse's beeeeeeeau-tiful features? ::melts:: Ok, all smitten fangirlism aside, a person's appearance usually indicates something about their personality, or lifestyle. In games, a charcter's design is extremely important, as they are often used to indicate a character's personality long before concrete written/spoken information is released. And because I strive (well.....more like try to strive... ^^;;) to go as in-depth as possible on Vyse, I believe it is my duty to write long, obsessive articles on the perfection that is Vy-I mean....on Vyse. Yeah.

.....and now to the good stuff! XD Working from top to bottom:

Hair:
Vyse has shoulder-length, dark brown hair. It has a ruffled sort of look. Unlike many people in Arcadia, Vyse doesn't look as if he spends a lot of time on his hairstyle, giving him a more unruly, free look. Mmmmmm......::sighs::

Face:
Perfe.....er....um....I mean....::slaps self:: Well, there are two ways to approach this. In official artwork, Vyse's face has a
leaner, more adult look; in the game, Vyse's face has a much rounder, childish appearance. I can only guess at the minor difference, but in the game, the fact that a "child" like Vyse can do what he does is a fairly important aspect in both the plot and his own personality. In official art, his more adult features may have been used to attract more interest from the gaming community. But most likely, rounded faces ended up looking better in the game than narrowed ones, and showed of the graphical prowess of the Dreamcast (no more super-pointy polygonal people!).
Vyse has a scar on left cheek, just beneath his eye. Princess Mint has been kind
enough to send in some information on the scar:

i have the eternal arcadia manga, it consists of a few silly stories and 2 more not so silly. they seem to be side stories. anyways, there is a story involving a young vyse and aika(look to be about 10-ish)doing a little exploration(or being mischievous)on their own on a nearby island. while aika goes off to pick flowers, vyse is practicing his Cutlass Fury move. a few minutes later, aika comes running back to vyse(she is being chased by that Serpantis monster-the giant worm that uses the 'Terrible Bite')and vyse jumps in front of her to protect her. the Serpantis attacks, and gives vyse his scar underneath his left eye. he finally destroys the monster by successfully completing(for the 1st time)his Cutlass Fury move.

Vyse's
eyes are a light brown, almost gold, color. Like many anime-based designs, they are quite large and expressive. Vyse also has many unique facial expressions, running from seriously PO'ed to eager for adventure to irresistable smiles and everything in between.

Outfit:
Vyse's blue rogue outfit is fairly simple: a long blue vest over a black shirt and close-fitting pants, a red scarf, heavy boots that go up to his knees...and some very unique sleeves that attach to his vest via leather straps that buckle the sleeves into place. In the Renaissance age, on which the world of Arcadia is heavily based, having detachable sleeves was apparently all the rage, and having them indicated that a person had good taste and probably lots of wealth and whatnot. Then again, wearing pants with two different colored pant legs was also considered stylish....

Accessories:
Of course, one can't forget about the ever-cool
glass eyepatch, which serves two purposes: it can zoom in on distant targets-always a useful ability-and makes Vyse look rather piratey without the need for losing sight in said eye. :D
Vyse's weapon of choice is the cutlass. Where he keeps them in between battles is a mystery, as they cannot be seen....I would assume he'd put one on each hip, for easy access....he may also keep them on his back. Either area is a common place to put bladed weapons. It is interesting to see how Vyse handles his cutlasses; one, noticeably larger than the other, is held in a tradional manner (by the hilt); the smaller blade is held by the crosspiece, with one side being longer than the other, indicating that it is designed to be held in that way. Whether or not this was a common way of using cutlasses is beyond me. ^^;;
Vyse wears a belt, for reasons beyond me....it certainly doesn't look as if anything he wears is held in place by said belt. Of course, I'm not complaining, because I find the way that the belt rests on his hips very......yummy. >:D
