Swashbuckler!: Name

The following information is the most correct that I can find. The original page was based on much misinformation and lacked much of what is here now. O__o If luck is at my side, this page will never see another update, as this took an eternity to compile (and it isn't even that much!).

The above is katana version of Vyse's name (Katana is used for forgien names in Japan). A very big thanks to Kam for this info.

Directly translated, the above is Vaisu. This is almost identical to the name Vasu, a name of Indian orgin, meaning bright and excellent. It is also the epithet of several Hindu gods.

Although there are many Indian names similar to Vyse, the name itself does not appear (at least not in any sources I have used), so it is doubtful that his name is from India (or the Arcadian equivelent... :P)

Vyse is a fairly common surname. It is of English origin, specifically from Cornwall. The Vyse family ruled over the area of Cornwall from the eleventh century til....I'm not quite sure. The family did leave England, however, for the "New World." The family's motto is Vive Ut Vivas. This is translated as "Live, so that you live", meaning that to truly live, a person must live life to the fullest, taking chances, doing all that one can, and so on. (To whoever sent me this info--I'm sorry, but I've lost your name ^^;; otherwise I would credit you.)

The Vyse family did have a family standard. The shield was ermine on black chevron, between three lion heads and three white discs. A stripe at the top contained three gold birds. The crest was an arm between two roses.
